"EAGLE COUNTY, Colorado — The snow news the valley has been waiting for is finally here — sort of. The storm track pattern for storms heading into the United States from the Pacific Ocean appears to be shifting south, which is great news for northern ski resorts in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Wyoming and Montana — and possibly good news for ski resorts in the northern part of Colorado. The storm track has been following a path this winter that has sent Pacific storms entering North America through British Columbia and Alberta before turning south in Saskatchewan and down through North Dakota and Minnesota, and then following an eastern path across the Midwest and the East. But as of Jan. 16, the path appears to be changing. The new track shows storms entering around Oregon and continuing east and slightly south — the results for Colorado, however, will depend on each individual storm, said Joel Gratz, a meteorologist who runs the powder forecast website opensnow.com. “The overall weather pattern for the...

VAIL, Colorado — For years, Vail restaurants have tried to attract diners with special deals in the fall. Fewer diners paying less for meals isn't a good thing for the bottom line, but that's the model. Vail Restaurant Month is trying to change that standard. The four-week event is entering its second year this fall, with a thousands-deep email database and almost 800 Facebook friends. The month of celebrating Vail's culinary culture also has added local and national sponsors for its second go-round. It's exactly what event founder Ilene Rapkin hoped for. Rapkin, who owns New York-based I Openers, a marketing and promotions company, is a longtime fan of Vail. She started Vail Restaurant Month as a way to draw people to Vail during an underappreciated season and seems to be having some success. Last year's events drew plenty of fans, from private tastings to kids' cooking classes. But besides drawing people, Rapkin said she's dedicated to a more bottom-line-based mission — no discounts. Vail Mountain...

Organizers had AT&T in line to take over the sponsorship, but that never happened, either. Then the dreams of reinventing the race just sort of faded away, Davis remembers. The concept of a major stage race in the United States isn't new, and there are certainly other major stage races such as the Tour of California and the Tour of Utah, but the USA Pro Cycling Challenge is going to be big....
